Are high gas prices being used to surreptitiously curb green house emissions ? We all know whats going on at the pumps, but no one clearly understands why prices are going up. Perhaps it is intentional to reduce carbon emissions. I dont know really.

Hiking up gas prices would definitely be a great incentive to reduce gas consumption for the sake of the environment, but i doubt that%26#039;s the true intention!!!
Gas prices are going up because oil is no longer on an upward trend of production. We are consuming more than can be extracted, and because our culture is dependent on gas, its one of those inelastic commodities...we will buy gas no matter the price until viable alternatives are made available to the average consumer.
Gas companies are pretty smart and manipulating. They hold shares in all the alternative Energy resources and based on their production forecasts know that gas consumption is on a downward trend, and that alternatives are hitting the market (fast). Once a cheaper alternative comes through, Fossil fuel consumption is going to plummet. So before that happens, the gas monopolies are going to milk us for every penny! (Its called business, politics and economics, and has nothing to do with the environment, health or social well-being of a nation)...sad!

• I doubt it as higher gas prices have farer reaching economic effects than the conspiracy theorist idea of curbing emissions.
  
  The price of goods are going up nearly across the board, travel is going up and yet wages either remain the same or have dropped with the sudden inflation and companies need to consider more layoffs or just arent hiring and it all comes back to the bottom line that they need to pay more for the fuel that moves their product.
  
  All of this is bad for the economy and nation as a whole, more so than the benifits of reducing emissions.
