Biomass question? Say I filled some 55 gallon drums with vegetable matter and stuck it in my basement. would those generate any heat? and would i need to vent off gas?

• Yes, rotting garbage does generate heat and gas and a heck of a stink. The center of a compost pile gets hot enough to scald bare flesh but only for a short while. The difference between what you propose and a compost pile is that a proper compost pile won%26#039;t stink.
• I am not sure about this but I believe if you seal them the vegies will generate gas and the drums will explode. I may be wrong though.
