The right to have children should be a marketable commodity, bought and traded by individuals but absolutely limited by the state.—Kenneth Boulding, originator of the “Spaceship Earth”
concept (as quoted by William Tucker in Progress and Privilege, 1982)
We have wished, we ecofreaks, for a disaster or for a social change to come and bomb us into Stone Age, where we might live like Indians in our valley, with our localism, our appropriate technology, our gardens, our homemade religion—guilt-free at last!
—Stewart Brand (writing in the Whole Earth Catalogue).
Free Enterprise really means rich people get richer. They have the freedom to exploit and psychologically rape their fellow human beings in the process…. Capitalism is destroying the earth.
—Helen Caldicott, Union of Concerned Scientists

We must make this an insecure and inhospitable place for capitalists and their projects…. We must reclaim the roads and plowed land, halt dam construction, tear down existing dams, free shackled rivers and return to wilderness millions of tens of millions of acres of presently settled land.—David Foreman, Earth First!
Everything we have developed over the last 100 years should be destroyed.

If you ask me, it’d be a little short of disastrous for us to discover a source of clean, cheap, abundant energy because of what we would do with it. We ought to be looking for energy sources that are adequate for our needs, but that won’t give us the excesses of concentrated energy with which we could do mischief to the earth or to each other.—Amory Lovins in The Mother Earth–Plowboy Interview, Nov/Dec 1977, p.22
The only real good technology is no technology at all. Technology is taxation without representation, imposed by our elitist species (man) upon the rest of the natural world.
—John Shuttleworth

What we’ve got to do in energy conservation is try to ride the global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, to have approached global warming as if it is real means energy conservation, so we will be doing the right thing anyway in terms of economic policy and environmental policy.—Timothy Wirth, former U.S. Senator (D-Colorado)
I suspect that eradicating smallpox was wrong. It played an important part in balancing ecosystems.

%26quot;No such thing as a radical environmentalist%26quot; eh?
Best Answer
Clearly environmentalism is an attack on man%26#039;s intellect.Environmentalist would be happier is we evolved no further than monkeys.
This is why their concept of subjective science or the science of the consensus is popular with them, as it requires no intelligence to come to a conclusion, just a majority of people with the same emotional feelings.
Objective science embedded in the scientific method is difficult and requires intelligent people to make discoveries.

They so often have themselves convinced that any technology in any field will be detrimental to the world, and most often, they%26#039;re wrong.
Oh, and Life, do you really believe there is no such thing as a %26quot;radical%26quot; environmentalist? If you don%26#039;t, you%26#039;re completely blind. How about the environmentalists that believe the world is overpopulated and demand that there be mandatory limits on how many children we can have? Oh how about the pathetic idiots who preach that Hummers are evil and firebomb them on the dealership lots to prove a point? By the way, that does happen, and when it does, the pollution from the burning vehicle causes more pollution than the Hummer will ever produce. Isn%26#039;t that ironic? Or what about those that will protest the harvesting of vegetation or animals despite them being used for great things like medicine and other things to improve people%26#039;s lives? Or what about those supposed practical environmentalists that push ethanol usage when the only thing it really does it drive up the cost of food AND standard fuel creating a situation extremely difficult to weather for the poor? Did you forget about any of those? Or are those not radical enough for you? -
There is no such thing as a %26quot;radical environmentalist%26quot; in a world where part of the daily newscast includes issuing an %26quot;Orange Day Warning%26quot; or %26quot;Purple Day Warning%26quot; for AIR QUALITY and we just pay it no attention like it was NORMAL or something.
There is no such thing as a %26quot;radical environmentalist%26quot; in a world where species are going extinct at a rate of over 50,000 every year - where before this past 100 years of industrial insanity, the rate of extinction was MILLIONS OF YEARS for a species to go extinct.
There is no such thing as a %26quot;radical environmentalist%26quot; in a world where MERCURY (the most toxic substance known to man) is now found in human TISSUE.
There is no such thing as a %26quot;radical environmentalist%26quot; in a world where over 1700 chemicals are used in everyday products which have never even been tested on humans. -
I see intelligent comments here every day. I also see many attempts to dismiss whole categories of people by labeling them with terms like %26quot;radical.%26quot; Try to engage those with whom you disagree. Respond to their arguments with facts. You%26#039;ll never convince anyone by name-calling. It just makes you look juvenile.

Well I know for sure that there are none in TEXAS !! Sure, there are radicals and they do some really stupid things sometimes but that doesn%26#039;t mean every person who calls themselves an environmentalist is going to come to your house at night and torch your Hummer - get real! For they most part they are trying to protect our quality of life - that means all life not just cocky humans. I%26#039;ll be glad when people can live on Mars then you anti life people can go there and enjoy the vast nothingness from your enclosed bubble that you%26#039;re allready living in.
