Freon is a brand name for refrigerant, like Kleenex is a brand name of snot rags. Many refrigerant products containing chlorofluorocarbons such as R-12, R-502 and R-11 were outlawed for production and import to the USA in the mid 1990%26#039;s and the common household A/C refrigerant R-22 will begin a phase out in 2010 with a total ban on the use of virgin or recycled R-22 by 2020. 38% 3 Votes

• yeah, i%26#039;m pretty sure it has... they have some new chemical to replace it... cfc%26#039;s are supposedly bad for the environment (depleting the ozone causing global warming, if you believe that)... you hit it on the head... as i know it cfc%26#039;s are just used as a propellant, the actual chemical composition of the chemical hasn%26#039;t changed at all
