You have to be old enough to have a work permit, it has to be signed by your parents or legal guardian. When i lived in Ca. the age was 14. But, the law could have changed. Check with your school administrative office, they will also have a copy of the permit for you.

  In the State of New York, anyone under 18 must have working papers - find out from your school where to get them.

• Laws say that you have to be 16 (Washington - check for your local state) to be allowed to work for an hourly wage.
  
  Newspaper routes you can be younger though. You set your own hours (so long as you get the papers out on time).
