M%26amp;S allegedly pass it to charity, but the intention is of course to stop us using them. That%26#039;s because about ten million of them weigh almost a kilo and take up almost two cubic inches of space in a landfill site.....................It must cost more in the way of informing us to re-use them than it EVER will to dispose of them after we%26#039;ve all used them about three times before putting the rubbish in them - WHICH MOST OF US DO ANYWAY ! ! ! 60% 6 Votes

they are charging for the carrier bags as they dont want you to use them. They are trying to encourage the use of material bags (reusable sources) as there is issues that are occuring right now and need to be stopped as soon as possible.
they do not give it to charity, and, i know that this wasnt part of the question but you mentioned %26quot;saving the planet%26quot; and a great movie to see is %26quot;The Day After Tomorrow%26quot; it shows what can happen to the world and it is happaning.
And that will explain to you why they are encouraging reusable sources as when these are manufactured it is destroying out world and our future.
you can make a difference, start now.

They are hoping that it will discourage you from buying plastic bags. I recently went away on a holiday and walked in to a fish and chip shop. I bought the exact money needed and the girl at the counter told me i needed 20 more cents for the plastic bag. I unintentionally put on a horrified looked and she waved it off and said don%26#039;t worry.
Apparently its saving the environment but its just the G word (greed). 0% 0 Votes -
They r just cashing in because if they really did care about the environment they would give all to charity. Just like the uk government who have made nearly 2 £billion pounds from fuel taxes this yr alone whilst the ordinary uk folk struggle to make ends meet. Supermarkets are all sleaze bags. They only care to keep share-holders happy. Its hypocrisy!!

they are all right. the main objective is too save money from the expenses in producing bags. the by product of that is, it turns out that they care for the environment. so they save money and they promote saving of the environment.

if they specify a charity, it should go to that
heaps of places only put 50% of this kind of thing to a charity, and keep the rest, but luckily, a lot of people discontinue their use of them, 0% 0 Votes -
it goes to the company.
actually the extra charge is to discourage you from using carrier bags and bring your own shopping bag.
i know of shops who have small discounts for people who bring their own shopping bags 0% 0 Votes -
Obviously we all know why they are trying to stop us using so many carrier bags, but would it not make more sense for them to charge for eco friendly bags and just not have plastic harmful ones available? Makes sense to me.

I know that M%26amp;S are giving the proceeds to charity - I think Homeless Charities are the main beneficiary.

It goes in their own pockets of course. I am sick of how everything is getting more and more expensive in this country now. Also hate people who use the environment as an excuse to charge us more.
