I%26#039;ve had Blue Jays, Mourning Doves, and Pidgeons all make nests on my fire escape. They are all grain eaters. You can feed them bird seed, rice, split peas, unpopped popcorn, etc. They have to be raw.
On an interesting note, the Blue Jays always seem to prefer spllit peas while the Pidgeons always liked the rice more.

yes they are a pest and they carry bird mites so once the nest gets vacated remove it and wash down the area because once the young have left the bird mites will be looking for a new host and that will be you.Try to discourage them from nesting latter on in the season their droppings also contain a large number of pathogens dangerous to humans. They are cute on a farm but they are known as rats with feathers in the city

This is something you probably know already:
Don%26#039;t be tempted to touch the baby pigeon. If you do this, the parents will smell your scent on it and disown it, leaving it alone to die. -
leave bird seed for mum bird, i don%26#039;t know what the baby eats but if the mums well fed she will take care of the little chap. make sure you clean up all the poop and old food as it will attract rat and mice if you don%26#039;t
