I posted here because Y/A does not have current events, anyway the original question are the levees fixed in New Orleans?
Best Answer
Yes and no. I know that is a cop out answer so here is the explanation. Several of the breached levees seem to be up and fixed, the pumps are fixed as well, however, over the last year there have been some irregularites. Some of the levees were fixed by private contractors, one was found to have been filled with shredded newspaper, contractor said it was a mistake. So yes and no is my answer. My best friend%26#039;s family is from NO.Other Answers (3)

Jorneyedgrl is right about the levies and evacuation. However if you had ventured to parts of NO that were the hardest by the flooding, you%26#039;d have seen that there is still a lot of work to be done to %26quot;repair%26quot; the city. Most damage in NO was flooding with little wind damage where as the gulfport communities got the brunt of the wind damage as well as flooding from the storm surge.

The levees have been fixed but they are still not strong enough to withstand another Katrina. The city will flood again. The pumps just can not keep up with that much water. It isn%26#039;t anyone%26#039;s fault....just the way it is. Shelters were not opened in the city because they thought that that might only encourage people to stay. Buses will be going around and picking up those that want to leave who don%26#039;t have transportation. But they can not force people to leave if they don%26#039;t want to. People need to take some personal responsibility. If you stay you are on your own.
I am from NO and still live on the Gulf Coast.

We should leave it all to the free market
People in New Orleans should never have received money from the taxpayer.
If there is an interest in saving New Orleans, the free market will work toward it. The free market will fix it all.
People need to stop relying on big government spendings. irony
