There are 7 types of consumer plastics or resin, and the number indicates what kind. Type #6 usually can%26#039;t be recycled, and types #1 and #2 have to be separated by the recycling center (from types #3-7, excluding #6) so they are not contaminated by other types that would make it more difficult to melt the material down and reuse it.
#1 PETE: Polyethylene Terephthalate.
Commonly used in soft drinks, juice, and cough syrup containers and microwave trays.
#2 HDPE: High Density Polyethylene.
Commonly used in milk jugs, detergent and shampoo bottles.
#3 V: Polyvinyl Chloride.
