I went on an alaskan cruise a few years back, and i remember there was 1 time where the waves were quite big, and had pictures, but they werent very clear. And i dnt remember exactly how rough.

The main reason the Bering Sea tends to be rough is due to the fact that it%26#039;s relatively shallow. The worlds roughest waters are first, the Straits of Magellan between Argentina and Antactica. Second is the British North Sea in the Atlantic, and then the Bering Sea.Other Answers (2)

gilfinn has the most active, and for one of the reasons, shallow. But what makes winds very fast includes not only large volumes of water vapor condensing, but also forming a major snow event in a mountain range. (Snow events release far more heat than rain events, and there is a powerful enhancing effect of a mountain range)
So Behring sea has almost the perfect storm, with snow set up over Alaska, as does North Sea when snow falls over Norway and Sweden.
South of South America has all the same circumstances. -
The Bering Sea is one of but most likely the roughest sea in the world. It has storms all year round and huge waves. I have also seen the show Deadliest Catch. Many times have they had problems due to rough seas. There is no other place quite like the rough Bering Sea..
