The Blob - a movie staring Steve McQueen? Last night the film %26#039;The Blob%26#039; was shown on television. It starred Steve McQueen in one of his first starring roles. The film was about a blob of matter, which increased in size and consumed everything in itspath. It was finally frozen and then taken to the Arctic. The last words of the film were: %26#039;The blob will be safe ss long as the Arctic stays cold%26#039;. I thought this film and its ending is now a metaphor for careless use of the planet and global warming, but I%26#039;m not quite sure. What do you think?

I though global warming melted the ice in the Arctic. Can someone put me right on that pz?

I agree with you about the metaphor.

Yahoo always sticks in that question mark at the end.

Some, but not all of the arctic ice has melted. The western half of the Antarctic ice is also melting fast, but not the thicker ice on the East side, which is over hand. The two main ice shelves extend far out over water. The larger of the two is responsible for a major cold ocean current that prevents unlimited heating in the Indian Ocean. When the ice shelf is gone that current will be gone, and there will be major changes to currents worldwide.

Steve Mcqueen was a fine actor. I believe that was his first movie and only Sci Fi movie. You%26#039;re on the ball to appreciate it.

  • I remember that, it was hysterically funny.
The Blob itself looked like Swarfega, Steve McQueen must have made it while he was still alive.
  • That film scared the s**t out of me as a child.....
I think the film is warning us that the Blob could come back....it%26#039;s going to kill us all! We%26#039;re all going to die!

  • I remember going to see this film in the 50%26#039;s with 2 of my friends. On the way home, one of them was crying because she had been so scared, which seems redicules nowadays.
It must have made some impact on me, because I remember it well. Except I thought they had sent the Blob into outer space not to the Arctic.
Cant say that I find it relevent to global warning.
Wish I%26#039;d known it was on tele, I would like to have watched it again.
  • I know what I want to watch one day now.

  • The Antarctic is increasing its ice mass over the past 18 years. And the Arctic ice sheet was back to its normal size this past winter. So we don%26#039;t have to worry about the Blob.
