Sometimes there are %26quot;fossil%26quot; oysters that erode out of the stream banks. They may not be made of rock or an impression in rock. It could be an actual oyster shell that was buried in the soil and was recently washed into the stream bed and provided a place for algae to grow...whether it had lived there in the past when the stream was bigger or it washed in from somewhere else, it depends on where you live. You could take it to a local school or university and ask the biology or geology department. Or there may be a book/website for invertebrate collectors in your area. 100% 1 Vote

  • I found trash in my creek. It probably got there the same way your oyster shell did. 0% 0 Votes
  • sounds cool. Is there a local college you can take it to the biology department for further exploration. They won%26#039;t want to take it from you, but they will want samples and class time probably!
