Toxic waste is just poisonous waste- It comes from power plants, hospitals, agriculture, the military and radioactive sources.

Some toxic waste still goes to landfill, some is incinerated. In the olden days, it was often just put straight into water courses or onto land. This is still done in some countries. With very dangerous radioactive waste, it can be placed in cement (encapsulation) or in glass (vitrification) until the radioactive matter has broken down. There is nothing else really they can do, as long as the toxic waste cannot harm people or the environment. Sometimes it it is just a case of making sure it is well contained so it cannot contaminate the entire area.
