Unique bird song, east central Illinois. I have a nest at the top of a fir tree. Very loud, distinct call? I haven%26#039;t seen the bird. I know it was in the tree, because of the song I heard. The nest seems to be quite large (8-10 inches in diameter, and length). The call was very striking--there were three of us in the immediate vicinity, and we all turned our heads.
It seemed to be a %26quot;chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk%26quot;, or a similar %26quot;cuch-cuch-cuch-cuch-cuch%26quot;, repeated at 30-60 second intervals, approximately 5 times within a few minutes. That%26#039;s when I really started looking and noticed the nest, at the top of a fir tree, about 40 ft tall.

Any ideas?
