All age groups should be doing the same things. We should all work together in %26#039;our%26#039; world! People shouldn%26#039;t litter. Soda cans should be cleaned and taken back to the store. We probably all should stop using plastic bags altogether! Buy the shopping bags that they sell now. Don%26#039;t just throw cigarette butts on the ground (this is littering). We should ALL be recycling!! It gets me how only a few people do this. It won%26#039;t be affective unless we ALL participate. There is so much that we all can do.

@ my school we have a recycling program where we collect recycling and then we take it to a recycling center. we also use only florescent light bulbs, and plant trees every year on earth day, and turn off lights when we%26#039;re not in the room. also be careful to fix a leak as soon as u see that there is one. in one day a leaky faucet can waste as little as 20 gallons of water.
@ your school u could recommend a class on environmental education. or if there already is one, join it! to me it%26#039;s really important and exciting to learn about wat%26#039;s going on, and figure out how to change it. also tell ur friends, family, and anyone who u think will care! we r the future! we r the generation that will have to change the planet... before it%26#039;s too late!

Start with recycling in your own home and ask your family to do the same. Many areas have recycling available for a nominal fee, which makes it affordable for many families. Get involved an environmental organization in your school and community. If there isn%26#039;t one, talk with your friends, instructors, and principle about starting one up. At most schools, you need at least one faculty %26quot;sponsor%26quot; to lead the organization--your science teacher may be a very good bet on this.
When you%26#039;re out and about, take mass transportation as much as possible, or at least carpool with friends. Better yet, get some type of exercise when going from point A to point B, where it%26#039;s walking or biking, roller blading, or whatever suits you physically. Buy natural and organic products as they are often recyclable, don%26#039;t contain harmful ingrediants, and may even cost a fraction of the cost as regular name brands (i.e. vinegar, baking soda, water, and lemon juice go a long way for cleaning). During the warmer months, purchase your fresh fruits and vegetables from local or organic farmers rather than at your local grocery store. Often times, the produce is MUCH better as it%26#039;s locally harvested, fairly cheap--comparable to what you%26#039;d buy in the store (if not cheaper), and it helps the local farmers as well as the local community.
Speaking of groceries..use canvas bags rather than plastic. They are generally much more sturdier than the regular plastic bags are cheap in price. You can reuse smaller plastic bags as trashcan liners throughout your house. You can also put the bags you don%26#039;t need into recycling as well. The same goes for paper bags.
Inside your home, common sense is key. Don%26#039;t keep on unneccessary lights and turn your thermostat down a few degrees in the winter and turn it up a bit in the summer. You can use fans to help circulate the air. Use energy efficient light bulbs (about $4 a package)--they last forever and don%26#039;t use as much energy. If your place has really old appliances, they can be upgraded as many of newer models are heat and energy efficient. When shopping for clothes, check out resale shops that sell good quality clothing. Often times, you can get gently used clothing for the fraction of the cost of what it would be at a department store in the mall. That saves on energy used to produce the clothes, which are often made in poor countries, in poor working conditions, horrible pay, etc.
I%26#039;m really happy to hear that there at least some young people who do care about the environment. :)
Hope this helps
