What can auto racing do to become a more environmentally friendly sport? I am a race car driver in the Indy Pro Series, the developmental league of IndyCar. I also hold a degree in Biology and I am concerned about the negative impact our sport has on the environment. I adopt an acre of rainforest for every race I run to offset my carbon footprint and I plan on doing more of this as I move into the higher levels of racing. I recently made a trip to Capitol Hill to speak with members of Congress on behalf of the Lieberman Warner Climate Security Act. What do you think we can do to make our sport more environmentally friendly-- recycling programs, biofuels, etc.

Honestly, I don%26#039;t think it will become a more environmentally friendly sport. I mean no offense, but I hate it. You drive around in a circle all day, polluting the atmosphere and wasting valuable resources and then people have the nerve to complain about the price of gas!

I think the only way would be to go completely hydrogen fueled, or electric. But then I guess your sport wouldn%26#039;t be exciting anymore. 60% 3 Votes

• During the 1970%26#039;s gas shortage, Indy cars were restricted to using an allotted amount of fuel for each race. Perhaps that rule should be applied again with increasingly reduced allotments over time.
  
  There have been experiments made with diesel cars at Le Mans and on the Paris to Dakar Rally, those trends should be encouraged with reduced entry fees for those vehicles. Of course those vehicles also present a good opportunity to use bio-diesel.
  
  When I go to races at large venues, there is a huge crush of traffic going to and leaving the event. Promoters could be made responsible to organize and make available alternatives to individual private vehicle use. Let%26#039;s face it most race tracks are no where near public mass transit facilities.
