I suppose one could attempt to delve into this but there are so many factors. For instance, i%26#039;ve seen dogs that have gone bad and in the attempt to retrain them, they still have a percentage of unreliable behavior. Mainly because during the past trauma, they focused in on something and associated it with the bad event. It could be green wallpaper, a red ball, who know%26#039;s what the pet had focused on, but re-exposure to the same item does tend to set them off.
On the other hand, many people from the generation remember where they were when JFK was shot in Dallas. The common factor seems to be some sort of trauma or disaster that really makes one sit up and take notice. People focus on things all the time, but it is in the face of adversity, particularly fear or shock that is most prevelent.
Problem is, alot of things that use to shock our grand parents, or parents don%26#039;t shock us as much today. We%26#039;ve seen crime on the streets reported in our time so often that it has desensitized us to a large degree. Society has changed a bit. Things that were said and done out of the ordinary back then are common place now.
I supposed that good events could like wise give people a %26quot;sense of a place%26quot; like a marriage, or once in a life time meeting however, it seems horrific instances are more common than good ones. Mainly because most good instances are controlled to a certain degree by those experiencing it. They can choose what to say, how to react. On the other hand when events that are a shock...say...911....happen. It usually is a bit beyond our control and a larger impression on our psyche.
