The police or army will be immediately called to the area and you will be evacuated. Insurance should fully cover the situation and the chances of you coming to any harm are very slim. The army is trained for these situations and will aid you fully. Thanks,

The best thing to do is to stay calm. There would be radio and TV explaining the situation and what to do and maybe sirens. If worst came to worst you would be evacuated, buses would likely be sent in to haul you out of the danger zone.
There is a very good chance your town officials have already looked into this scenario. There would likely be plans laid out in advance. With that question the quickest answer may be found at your town%26#039;s police department, fire department or city hall.
If a plant melted down there wouldn%26#039;t be a massive explosion like an A-bomb and the fall out would take a while to drift over (depending on the weather and wind direction).
American plants are built to much higher specifications and have well trained personnel and unlike Chernobyl, they have large concrete containment domes purposely built to contain the radiation should there be a problem.
To specifically answer your question, I might say sit tight. Its a crappy answer but there isn%26#039;t much to do about keeping radiation out of your house. Probably just stay indoors, shutting the windows up and listen to the radio. 20% 1 Vote -
Don%26#039;t Panic or stress about the possibility of nuclear contamination from the nearby nuke.
The probability of contamination is about the same as being struck by lightning wile sitting in your bathtub.
The chance of being injured or killed wile driving to the supermarket is much greater.
We have the safest nuclear plants in the world. 0% 0 Votes -
You should be safe. And if your home is that close anyway, it should be reinforced. But don%26#039;t panic! Nuclear Power is the safest form of energy-- a wind turbine is more likely to lose it%26#039;s blades than a nuclear disaster-- and you are more likely to get shot than to die in a Nuke.
If that was to happen, have faith in your Army-they should be trained to deal with these situations, should ever they arise. 20% 1 Vote -
Even if you hear sirens, it is likely only a test. They are safer than driving. Worry about something else, if at all.
