What is a %26#039;Low Emissions Zone%26#039;? I have just completed a journey in the UK. On the M40, in one place, the hard shoulder only is such a zone. Elsewhere, it seemed to apply to a different lane. Have they installed some Marcel Marceau-esque kind of invisible %26#039;wall%26#039; that stops emissions seeping from one lane into another? ...And why?

lol. The Low Emission Zone (LEZ) is enforced using fixed and mobile cameras which will read your vehicle%26#039;s registration number plate as you drive within the zone.
If your car does not meet the emissions standard you%26#039;ll have to pay a fee.

I%26#039;ve just re-read your question and i didn%26#039;t realise it was certain lanes. Where i drive (A2) it%26#039;s the whole motorway.

Thanks. Obviously, I was misled. Did anyone ever tell us about this?

  • Its a lane for people with eco cars so there%26#039;s less traffic congestion and they%26#039;re rewarded by being able to get to where they want to faster whilst saving the planet!
Or not, as the case may be - im personally not a believer that we%26#039;re the cause of global warming. theres an 800 year lag between temperature patterns and co2 patterns in the air.
