Definately black bear. Black bear attacks have been on the rise, 15 people have been killed by black bear since 2000. Attacks differ from northern grizzly bears in respect to purpose. A grizzly will normally attack out of pure agression, whereas black bear attacks are usually predatory. Something to think about while hiking in the appalachians.
