When oil runs out...? I heard that when oil runs out in addition to the fuel problem it will mean we can%26#039;t make any plastics of any kind because they%26#039;re all made from oil, and that this will affect the world just as much if not more so than the petrol problem. Is this true, is any research being done to make organic plastics or something?

I%26#039;m aware that most of the oil remains in the pockets they take it from because they can only remove it when there%26#039;s pressure pushing it up. I%26#039;m aware oil is not going to run out spontaneously or soon.
Corn plastic cups? very clever.
Oil companies buying up renewable energy patents? surely not, you%26#039;d think there%26#039;d be commitees set up to stop that kinda thing, I%26#039;m sure that they wont just let oil companies can%26#039;t alternatives, someone just needs to find something cheap and easy I guess.
  • I think there is reasearch going on about that. We will have to find an alternative fuel to use when the oil runs out.

    Hope i could help
  • They do make plastics out of other things besides oil.
  • Not a problem. You can make those things out of coal, algae, and a number of other experimental methods. By the time oil gets prohibitively expensive [it%26#039;ll never actually run out, it just won%26#039;t be worth getting eventually] we%26#039;ll have lots of alternatives.
