Yeah I agree that they may not understand the concept of a road but still doesn%26#039;t really explain why they seem to gather next to them rather than just potter about in the expanse that is the rest of the country side?I just get the feeling they have an underlying urge to annoy drivers or get themselves by other means than shotgun pellets...

Maybe the roads are warmer than the surroundings as they absorb the heat from the sun, and the peacocks like the extra warmth?Other Answers (2)

they are not aware that it is a road in the first place.
maybe they find it easier to walk thru the road to reach for the place they wanted to go.
Morale of the story , the owners should keep them in cages or in the barn so they would not be hit by cars etc. -
Peacocks don%26#039;t know that they are on roads, no one taught them that they must look right then left then right again
