Why do environmentalists not want us to dig for oil in the U.S.?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

They use the excuses that many here have regurgitated which are the following: Pollutes land, kills animals, and destroys the natural habitat, blah, blah, blah. Don%26#039;t drill here, never drill at all, be energy dependent forever.

The real reason is much more sinister than that. They see high gas prices as shutting down business enterprises, halting the progress, and putting everyone on a level playing field. They are for a socialist and bordering communism factions that live in a free land and our trying to bring our capitalist system to a grinding halt. 50% 2 Votes

  • It obviously harms the environment, and environmentalists key purpose is to stop that! What way is digging for oil, tearing up our planet, taking away land that animals could be on, and polluting our planet with the fumes and spills of oil going to help our planet?

The answer is no way is it going to help our planet, all it is doing is hurting it, and helping lazy people get gas to ride in their cars, when they could walk or ride a bike. 0% 0 Votes
  • Too many environmentalists think that big business has no regard for the environment. They think the companies that want to drill for oil don%26#039;t care how much is spilled on the ground or in the ocean. That thought is simply wrong. Oil companies don%26#039;t want to spill any oil. Spilled oil hurts them in more than one way. First of all, after spending lots of money drilling a well they want to sell every drop, not spill it. A spill means expensive clean up which cuts into profits and an investigation by the EPA which gets in the way of production. So you can see that the most profitable way to drill for oil is also the most environmentally sound. To put it in real simple terms, environmentalists don%26#039;t want us to drill for oil because they have no understanding of how business works. 25% 1 Vote
  • Because of the HELL the exxon valdez caused when it gushed oil all over alaska.

Oil wells cary risks of pollution, disruption of wildlife, and can even explode or burn. The risk of something like that happening is very low, but real.

Pollution on a small scale is unavoidable when operating an oil well. Some oil WILL spill on soil and get into the water. Some gas fumes WILL leak. I%26#039;d dare say that it is acceptable pollution, but somepeople don%26#039;t think any pollution is acceptable.

Also, trucks go in and out, roads must be built, land cleared out, et-cetera. It%26#039;s not just a tiny pump in the middle of a forest that magically transports oil to your gas tank.

    Think on this, though....

If oil is $150 a barrel today, and $300 a barrel two years from now....doesn%26#039;t it make sense to wait for the price to go up before drilling?

Isn%26#039;t it good sense to hold on to an investment that is skyrocketing in price? 0% 0 Votes
  • Ok, why would you want to use up our oil supply!? I don%26#039;t understand that. How much oil do you think the US has? Enough to last us about 5 years at our current rate if we only used ours. That%26#039;s ridiculous. Instead of drilling the world over, environmentalist would like to see this energy focused on alternate energy sources! Drilling elsewhere is only a temporary fix. We absolutely MUST reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. Their use affects everything. Reading the other people%26#039;s answers on here gives me little hope for the future. It doesn%26#039;t take a rocket scientist to put it together that burning fossil fuels is not good for many reasons! That wasting resources will have huge impact on the world. Environmentalists are anything but out to destroy the world. What amazes me is that most of the Christian right are against eco-friendly practices and are find with destroying %26quot;God%26#039;s creation%26quot;...that%26#039;s just so weird to me. Environmentalism is about leaving the world a better place, it%26#039;s about loving your grandchildrens%26#039; grandchildren and not just thinking about yourself in the present. 0% 0 Votes
  • Many Americans have had their fill of environmentalists, environmentalism, and the perpetuation of this global warming hoax. If global warming is true, why doesn%26#039;t Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) step up and embrace the concept? Because they know that the earth rejuvenates itself and that humans are the top of the food chain and not the bottom. One volcano does more damage to the environment than all of the cars we drive. The environmentalist agenda goes much deeper than just saving the planet.

Why has America fallen behind other countries in production and manufacturing? Why are we paying ridiculously high prices for gas? Why does everything that is %26quot;environmentally friendly%26quot; cost so much more? Why does the production and use of ethanol create more CO2 than gas? How does a failed presidential candidate become a world class scientist and now expert on the topic of climate change?

Environmentalists do not want more drilling because they use the environment to strum the heart strings of as many as they can in an effort to use that momentum as a spring board for more power. Since they have Soros%26#039; money backing them, power is the only thing they don%26#039;t have. Has anyone considered the seven environmental catastrophes? No one remembers those do they?

There will be a backlash against environmentalists and the environmental movement. The 60%26#039;s are over. It is time to put away the beads, the tie died shirts and the peace pipes. Certainty exists as death and taxes and if environmentalists are allowed to continue on the path they are on, the taxes we pay to support the environmental agenda will kill us all. 0% 0 Votes
  • You just answered the question in your question. Because they are environmentalists. Digging for oil puts a lot of risk on the surrounding wild life. By the way, you realize a viable oil source wouldn%26#039;t peak for about 10-15 years after digging from scratch. There is no immediate fix to these gas prices.
