Why do they waste natural gas from oil fields? Oil fields/refineries always have natural gas %26#039;flares%26#039; where the gas is being burned off. Why is it wasted in this way instead of collected and sold ?

Economics, mostly. That gas has a low heat content, so there is little demand for it.

• that is a very good question and im looking forward to that answer.. there has been one burning for 10 years about 10 miles from my house.. why? why waste that?
