• umm thats was put in by the gov around ww2 so that farmers and workers had an extra hour of sunlight each day to work. otherwise we dont need it anymore and its a pain in the ***

• I think the answers about extra daylight for farmers may be right.
  
  However it seems like I remember debates when I was young about whether to continue daylight savings. The extra hours of daylight, for leisure time after work, during the nice weather, was a factor.
