Why is water near the Bay Area dark, dirty, and disgusting? The ocean water near the Bay Area is dirty and dark and nasty. But down south near Mexico or near Florida and the Carribean its really beautiful and clear. Why?

YOU ARE IN A RIVER DELTA.
The mud from as far away as the sierras all flows through the bay.
add to that all the coastal rivers north of the bay area dumping into the ocean and that is to be expected.
