Worms in my hairbrush? long but please reply.. freaked out cos i got bitten? Ok. My hamster passed away in August last year, and i%26#039;ve been stupid and kept her cage in my room, not cleaned it out all this time.. i know i have been VERY stupid and unhealthy but I promised if I saw something strange in there, i%26#039;d throw it out. Well yesterday my dad found a pink hairbrush in my room that i%26#039;d not used since last year, next to the hamster cage. He put it on the cabinet beside my bed. When I went to brush my hair, the brush had hair in it (that i%26#039;d not removed after last use) and three worms in it. They looked chunky and about 1.5cm length, every two seconds they wriggled. I screamed and threw the brush away. The worms were beige coloured.. that%26#039;s all i remember. Remember there length is about 1.5cm.
I have thrown the hamster cage out now.
1. Have I done the right thing.
2. What are these worms?

I have looked on the floor and can%26#039;t see anymore worms, or in the cage..
Also while sleeping I got bit twice behind my ankle.. did these %26#039;worms%26#039; bite me? are they related

The bites; i woke up in the middle of the night with intense itching, i almost couldn%26#039;t stop, then I went back to sleep, Woke up in the morning had 2 bites on the back of my right ankle, looks like deep scratches and are quite inflamed, what are these insects? What should I do?

Also the hamster WAS NOT IN THE CAGE, i buried her 2 days after she died, obviously i would not keep a decomposing hamster in the cage living with me, i%26#039;d be freakked out

You know what? I had the same problem, but my hamster was still alive. I didn%26#039;t change his cage for a few months, and when i curiously peered into the cage, the ground was moving, and I freaked out. The worms are exactly as you described, but I think they were more like maggots. Maybe fly maggots, since flies are into feces. In your hairbrush tho? that%26#039;s like something from a scary movie.

No maggots can%26#039;t bite you, I think you have bed bugs. Try washing your sheets, I used to have bites on my ankles too, during a time when I didn%26#039;t have a hamster.

• For one that is so nasty to keep a cage that has nothing inhabiting it and not cleaned it out no wonder you have worms and who know%26#039;s what other bugs in your room crawling and spreading over everything. It is probably maggots ans whatnot just clean everything, throw out the cage. Man that is so gross.
• ok, whats done is done go to a doctor and make sure your not at risk 4 infection or something. also, you may have bed bugs. clean your room from top to bottom. throw out old junk(all of it that u never look at)
  and please practice better hygene...you should be fine, but DONT ignore it.
• %26#039;worms%26#039; probably fly larvae.
  bites probably flea (ex. hamster, now desperate enough to try human), or more likely midges (it is spring after all).
  
  rip hammy. i still miss my pet rat morticia. rodents make super little pets.
• Worms do not have mouths exactly, thus, they did not bite you. The bite is most likely from fleas or bed bugs.
  
  Do yourself a favor. Clean your room. I mean, CLEAN it. Toss the hamster cage (or clean it out and spray it with Lysol). Wash every single bit of fabric (clothes, bed sheets, etc). Vacuum your floor with baking soda. Clean every surface. Move your furniture and clean underneath it and behind it.
  
  Now you understand why your mother was always giving you a hard time about keeping your room clean. I live in the country, so bugs would be the least of your worries here. We get mice, then the snakes follow the mice in, etc. Leave a sandwich out too long, next thing you know, there%26#039;s rattlesnakes chasing rats under your floor.
