regular gas is a fossil fuel. It will run out with time. Hydroelectric and wind driven energy will not. I watched a film on the EV-1 story. GM pushed California hard to get the vehicle off the road and the did. The car was popular. It worked. GM lied every step of the way to get out of making it. They sued the state of California and exerted pressure to play by their rules. They would make them if only there was a market for them. They did all they could to kill demand by driving up the price(did not mass produce but produced a few at a time) They advertised as low key as they could. In the end, GM recalled back all of the cars(they were leased) and crushed and shredded each one, contrary what they had promised(give them away to charitable organizations). Not all electricity is produced by coal. More can be produced by solar, windmill and hydroelectric sources. Yeah, and my profession was in the thick of it. LOL, you could say that my GRANDKIDS saved me. Report Abuse Idot. Oil is not heavier than water, it is the other way around. Oil floats on water. Also, where do you get the data that cars run on natural gas that costs $1 a gallon? A gallon of natural gas doesn%26#039;t = a gallon of petrol in energy units AND it doesn%26#039;t cost a dollar a gallon. Report Abuse

Nice conspiracy. The EV-1 wasn%26#039;t killed because Big Oil and GM couldn%26#039;t control profits for the energy.
It was killed because the technology benefit didn%26#039;t outweigh the cost. Where do you imagine the electricity comes from to charge the EV1? Unless you have your own windmill turbine/generator, it comes from enegry companies.
The technology for battery powered vehicles just isn%26#039;t ready for primetime. As long as we don%26#039;t have a way to get an immediate charge/ fill up, it is not a good idea for commuters. Can you imagine what happens if you get stuck in traffic and run out of juice? You need a tow.
Battery powered electric vehicles that need a plug in recharge will just never be very practial. Practical vehicles require a quick and reliable method to refuel/recharge.
Relating this back to the assertion that big oil and GM killed the EV1. Again, GM would be very interested in marketing the first consumer model electric or non-fossil fuel vehicle. Big oil would be hurt if we switched off their teet....but again, the elecricity in your outlets doesn%26#039;t get made by pixie dust. it is made from petrolium/coal/nuclear/etc.
I would be very interested to see a benefit analysis to see what causes the most harm....creating and distributing the energy to recharge an EV, or running on regular gas. -
It wasn%26#039;t killed because of the Bush administration or oil companies. Give me a break! Loser!

It%26#039;s cool to support anything that is unfeasible within your presidency. because of course you can make promises that dont require financial backing.

Ridiculous. Electric cars have not been successful simply because they suck. I worked for an electric utility company and we tried them. They just have not been cost effective, and their range is too small. All this crap about GM and Oil ompanies killing it is just bull crap for idiots to to follow with the idiot herd. I know many investors that would love to get rich on any electric car that could perform even close to other cars. They just do not, and so people don%26#039;t buy them.
