Zoos have breeding programs and work with one another to avoid inbreeding. The more diverse an ecosystem, the more stable it is. As an analogy, think about going to work. If your only means of getting there is your car, a breakdown strands you. If there are bus and train lines that can get you there, you are much less likely to miss a day of work. 50% 2 Votes

1. Many zoos are very cruel to animals and i for one do not approve of them
2. To understand the consequences of reducing biodiversity we have to understand the importance of it. There are so many diff rent medicines and cures that we get from nature. It is said that it is possible that even the cure for cancer can e found in some where like the amazon forest. It will never be possible if we destroy the Forrest and all of our biodiversity. 25% 1 Vote -
As said above, zoos have breeding programmes that can help to stop outright extinction. While they should be congratulated on this, it%26#039;s not the same as helping animals stay alive in the wild - sort of like the difference between reading about love and experiencing it!
As for the consequence of reduced biodiversity:
Yes, it makes the ecosystem (including our place in it) more fragile, less resistant to change or calamities and much more vulnerable.
To my mind, however, the unknown consequences are the ones to worry about - we don%26#039;t know enough to say for sure how diversity may help us or the planet; we can guess at things such as loss of potential medicines and other useful bio-compounds from plants, but what else?
All too often we only realise the consequences when things go wrong and by then it%26#039;s often too late... 25% 1 Vote -
Zoo help in the research of animal. They allow us to gain an understanding of the creature which can help us in saving endangered creatures. Zoos also have breeding program that help in reducing the chance of extinction for certain animals
