Has anyone noticed how good Port Phillip is looking since Scallop dredging ceased.

The Hastings option is better than digging up the bay for sure. But what would be even better would be if we didn%26#039;t do so much international trade and we didn%26#039;t need all the boats and trucks carrying stuff around. If we all bought local, traded within Australia, grew our own vegies, made our own electrical equipment, bought less junk then we would need a lot less of these ships to come and go. Then there would be less carbon emissions and pollution from transport, more efficiency, and less environmental degradation - and of course we%26#039;d save the millions we are spending on this stupid dredging.

Nothing will ever make Port Phillip look good. It%26#039;s in Melbourne. ;)
Nyah nyah nya nyah nyah! You live in Melbourne! And you smell like poo! Nyah nyah!! -
I didn%26#039;t know that scallops dredged! Just kidding.
I am not a Canadian, I have no idea of this issue, but any time international multinational corporations want something for their business interests, they usually get it. And amazingly, in spite of the fact that Canada is not a Democracy (well heck, our USA is not a Democracy either - - when is the last time any country asked its people for permission to do anything, as in a real Democracy?), it is amazing how many Canadian ecological issues have been addressed - although insufficiently - to prevent commercial exploitation!
I think the issue of developing Hastings versus deepening the channel in Port Phillip is a trade-off no matter how one looks at it. But also think of the marine life that will be affected by even deeper channels for bigger ships. The fact that Canada is an easy slip-in to get around my USA%26#039;s corporate communist-run government is a huge incentive for Canada developing all of its ports.
