Can CFLs bring US ghg down enough? CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lights) can reduce a home owners electric bill by 30%. Should they be mandatory or outlaw incandescent light bulbs?

Best Answer

No not really. The problem with CF bulbs is they contain mercury. While each bulb contains a very small amount, the total of all bulbs would lead to other more serious problems.

If we were forced to switch to CF bulbs, soon we would be seeing mercury run off problems.

CF Bulbs are not a good long term solution.

I feel strongly that a 30% decrease in US energy consumption now would be better than a possible perfect solution in the future.

  • Not really since the product youll most likely buy is made in China a nation that has no restrictions on pollution your just displacing the problem. And there lighting products are inferior and will blow out far more often than the equivalent made in the US, you%26#039;ll buy more of them.
