Can trees be planted above ash?? we know that...a large amount of ash is generated as by-product from power plants....Ash, apart from being used for producing cement/bricks etc.....has no other use.
Further, it turns the soil beneath it infertile.
So, is there no plant/vegetation which can b grown on ash???

by ash, i mean dat...ash obtained from E-grade coal....used in most of the thermal power plants in INDIA .....
Coal, whose ash content is 35-40 %.

There is a big difference between coal ash (often loaded with heavy metals) and wood ash (used as a soil sweetener). There was something vaguely similar in Africa. Someone was faced with rehabilitation of a strip-mined area. He waited for trees to move in on their own and then planted more of these %26quot;volunteer%26quot; species. The few plants that could survive modified the ecosystem enough that other plants could move in. It took years but he eventually he had the area changed from moonscape to forest. If you can%26#039;t start with trees, you may have to start with poineer species, such as lichens and mosses.

• This is to counter the statement of ash having no other use. The ash at a power plant where I worked was sent to stockyards and dairy farms. It was spread on the ground to neutralize the acidity of the livestock%26#039;s urine in order to prevent conditions affecting the livestock hooves. • sorry but I have to disagree, in many areas, the ground is burnt off, and the crops are healthier as a result.
  also most Co-generation plants use fossil fuel for their power, and there is not ash as a by-product.
