Do pandas deserve to be extinct? Someone suggested on TV the other day that Panda%26#039;s deserve to be extinct, this was provided with the view that any species on the endangered list because it refuses to have sex is getting what it deserves.

Any thoughts?

I think whoever said that is extremely ignorant. If it should be anyones fault to why they are not procreating it should be humans. We are pressuring their environment, and who wants to be watched while trying to make a baby? Pandas are very shy creatures, and are very responsive to human pressure.
Any animal of the endangered species list, WAS at one time flourishing. Look at what we did to the buffalo!! We killed it off, then we HAD to bring it back by intruding on its life.
Now, I am all about animal control (I hunt), but I would never, ever, kill off everything I see just because %26#039;its there%26#039;.
And back on the panda note, I think that if we gave them a descent large area with plenty of there own resources, we would not have to deal with ignoramus fools like the one that you stated!

Good day, and I hope this helped!

  • No animal %26quot;deserves%26quot; to be extinct, or %26quot;deserves%26quot; anything else. %26quot;Deserves%26quot; is a word with human connotations. Some people may deserve something or other because of the way they have acted. But no animal %26quot;deserves%26quot; anything because of what it has or has not done. Extinctions have occurred in the past, and unfortunately, they will occur again. When the effort was made to save the Passenger Pigeon there were still thousands of them, but it was too late. Captive breeding attempts failed. Let%26#039;s hope that does not happen with the Panda. 0% 0 Votes
  • No! I don%26#039;t think any animal deserves to go extinxt! It isn%26#039;t there fault their homes are being torn down, it%26#039;s ours! It%26#039;s not like they can get up and go like, %26quot;Hey, dude, this is our home so go away.%26quot; Pandas are so adorable and so many people love them! For all the little kids who maybe won%26#039;t get to see a panda when they grow up? But some animals are actually taking charge. {good for them} My teacher was reading us this magazine article about elephants yesterday. I%26#039;ll tell you what it said. It said that since so many elephants are being killed, taken away from their homes, killed for the ivory in their tusks (which you know what they do? they only take the tusks and leave the whole rest of the body to rot!!), or put in torture places, that they%26#039;re fighting back to people. Its like if you and your family where taking a walk and somebody just out of nowhere shot someone.......how would you feel? That%26#039;s what elephants feel like! They have familys too! And when an elephant dies, the family will bury it in bushes and stuff and come back to it. And the article said that they make noises that sounds like crying and sence they have such a great memory they can always tell which elephant was which. NOW HOW CUTE IS THAT?! I don%26#039;t know if they same thing goes for other animals, but I would say YES! So let%26#039;s take better care of our world and our animals before it all goes away!!!!! =] 0% 0 Votes
  • Obvously pandas breed just fine in the wild. The fact that they breed poorly in captivity simply means more effort should be put into conserving them in the wild so that we don%26#039;t have to rely on artificial environments for an animal that is obviously stressed by them. Zoos and research centers are a last-ditch effort to prevent extinction, but they don%26#039;t work well for all species. We%26#039;re the ones who need to learn to prevent zoos from being necessary in the first place. conservationalist 8% 1 Vote
  • It is on the endangered species list due to habitat destruction. Humans have destroyed their natural habitat along with their main food source (bamboo) ...NOT because they refuse to have sex. Get your facts straight! 8% 1 Vote
  • Without commenting on whether any creature %26quot;deserves%26quot; extinction, I can tell you that the Panda is pretty much doomed to exist only in zoos and with the massive and expensive aid of humankind.

Animals are either %26quot;generalists%26quot; or %26quot;specialists%26quot;. Generalists, for example, might eat grass, leaves, fruits, and other stuff. In the absence of one kind of food, they select another. Its a major survial tactic.

Specialists, however, depend on a single element to survive. Like Koalas and their eucalyptus leaf diet--if you take away a panda%26#039;s bamboo, he goes hungry.
