If you work for the Department of Wildlife/Forestry/what have you your work will be either DNA/serology on bloodstains or trace evidence analysis on animal hair. These techniques are used to determine the species of the animal in question and support charges of poaching or illegal importation of animal products (CITES violations). If you%26#039;re interested in doing this for a living, every state has its own agency and the US Department of Agriculture has a big lab too, so don%26#039;t forget to check them out.

As for salary, you might make a little less than you would working in a big-city crime lab until you get some seniority, but it isn%26#039;t poverty wages.
