How did this start?
Quote:
It started with a question: How can we inspire people to take action on climate change?
The answer: Ask the people of Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour.
On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businessesturned off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour. If the greenhousereduction achieved in the Sydney CBD during Earth Hour was sustainedfor a year, it would be equivalent to taking 48,616 cars off the roadfor a year.
Hey.. It%26#039;s one hour, it%26#039;ll make a difference. Think what you can do. You can be a part of something larger! You can actually make a difference tonight! We may all be one person, but together, we can do so much..
Here%26#039;s an amazing, inspiring video by them also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9GRh_9sQ...
I just want to add that just Sydney, Austrailia last year.. ONE city doing this.. 10.2% energy reduction, that%26#039;s an equivalent of taking 48,000 cars off the road. This year.. Hundreds of cities! The effect will be amazing.
