You can select an area nearby that interests you and write about it. Who manages that land, and how? Some agencies are mired in mismanagement and lack of funds, others seem to do wonders with park foundations that support the official agencies.Another approach is to pick someone who has devoted themselves to the environment. They need not be famous. Maybe the local park ranger. What drew him/her to the field, and what do they love most about their job?

Write something which is closer to home. Examples are the day-to-day practices which you and your family do and are aimed at protecting the environment. This may include waste segregation, energy conservation, etc.
