I believe what you are asking about is the connection between ice ages and salinity levels in the ocean and times when polar caps melted decreasing the salinity levels thus shutting off the thermoclines, triggering a new ice age (this is how the earth stays in balance with regards to our current temperate climate).But to answer your question about increasing or decreasing biodiversity, the answer would have to be both are possible. We just shouldn%26#039;t want biodiversity lose on our watch because humans are interrelated with life on this planet, that is not to say that if we kill everything on this planet humans will die. But what right do we have to be so arrogant and think we are heavenly beings waiting to return, all the while raping earth.
