How does brushing your teeth in the shower save water? I%26#039;ve heard people, most notably Jennifer Aniston, say/brag that they brush their teeth in the shower in order to conserve water. Aniston even followed this statement up by preaching about how 2 minutes in the shower uses an entire day%26#039;s worth of water for someone in Africa. My immediate thought when I hear this is, %26quot;That%26#039;s stupid. You%26#039;re using more water, not less%26quot;. After all, brushing your teeth outside of the shower only requires the water to be on for about a second to first wet the brush and then another second to rinse it. When you brush in the shower, you%26#039;re using more water for a longer period of time. You%26#039;re essentially just extending your shower, right? Or am I missing something? I%26#039;m only asking because I would do it if I honestly thought it was helpful, but the way I see it it%26#039;s just a bigger waste and someone needs to set Ms. Aniston straight.

lets see a 4 oz cup of water to wet the brush, then wet the mouth, then rinse out the mouth and rinse out the brush compared to a low flow shower head that uses .5 litres of water every minute that would be approx 1 litre of water wasted to do the same thing.Jennifer darling you may have the looks but not the sensibilities.

  • Her heart may be in the right place, God bless her, but I can%26#039;t see how this saves water unless she%26#039;s not brushing very well. If you don%26#039;t leave the water running, you can use very little water in brushing your teeth, and you don%26#039;t have to rinse off the toothpaste from the shower wall if you miss when you spit.

But maybe just maybe she turns off the water while she brushes .....
  • That has to be the wierdest thing I%26#039;ve heard in a long time... If you brush your teeth while you shower, there is water running all over the place while you stand and focus attention on your mouth.

When standing at the basin, you can close the tap while you%26#039;re busy (I say you can, but you should) which saves LOADS more water.
  • You%26#039;re right, she%26#039;s wrong. You don%26#039;t use much water using the sink... especially if you turn it off while you actually brush.
  • True, but if it were up to me, I%26#039;m much rather brush Jennifer Anniston%26#039;s teeth in the shower.
  • You might want to sit down for this one.....

The same way peeing in the shower saves water in the long run.........
  • your right , shes wrong...never take advice from actors take advice from experts in that field....anyone remember Meryl Streep and Alar?
  • you dont use that much.
