  • Mumbai, formerly known at Bombay, is the most populous city of India, and by some measures the most populous city in the world with an estimated population of about 13 million, as of 2006. Along with it%26#039;s neighboring suburbs, it forms the world%26#039;s sixth most populous metropolitan area with a population of about 25 million.

So, my educated guess would be somewhere between 13 and 25 million electricity consumers in Mumbai, depending on where you draw your boundaries.

There are many different ways to reduce electricity consumption on a household level. If you can afford it, replace appliances with those labeled with the Energy Star logo. If you can%26#039;t do that, at least adjust the levels on most of your appliances. Turn the fridge down one notch, use the economy setting on your dish washer, only wash full loads of clothes and use cooler water.

If you live in a warm climate, install ceiling fans instead of running the air conditioner all the time.

Also, if you have timers on any exterior lighting or fountains, set the timers to start an hour later and turn off an hour earlier than normal.

You can also save a lot by turning off what you%26#039;re not using. Power down your computer at night, turn off lights as soon as you leave the room, replace light bulbs with energy saver bulbs, don%26#039;t leave the TV running.

One last tip, you can leave your house. If it%26#039;s super hot out and you%26#039;re running the ac at full blast, just go to the library, a movie, the mall. Then you%26#039;re not using ANY electricity at home. You can also go explore the outdoors, whether it%26#039;s walking around the city or going for a nature walk, both of those cost you $0 in electricity charges. 13% 2 Votes
