I-Go Car Sharing??? I%26#039;m moving to Chicago soon and was interested in getting rid of my car and doing the I-Go car sharing. My question is who are the majority of the people who use this service and what do you usually take the cars out to go do? It%26#039;s paid for hourly right?

I want to see if it would be a smart idea to let go of my car...

Thanks!

I like the idea of car sharing, but I find it is more expensive than just renting a car. And the rental cars are brand new versus car sharing clubs where the cars are much older.

Plus most of them ask for a refundable membership fee of up to $500 up front (probably to cover insurance deductible) and they don%26#039;t %26quot;pick you up%26quot;. When I rent the cost is about the same as the car share per day and I don%26#039;t worry at all about insurance, it is covered on my gold card.

It is hourly, and that is the one advantage; if you just need a car for an hour or two a day, then the car share is cheaper, but it is a lot of trouble to go through. For me it is better to just plan a bunch of errands for one day and rent.

It is still a smart idea to get rid of your car; just for the money you will save on insurance, depreciation and maintenance if nothing else. 100% 2 Votes
