Look into Deer management at Valley Forge NP in PA (or the lack of deer management in Morristown National Historic Park, NJ), Controlled burning in Yosemite NP, Bison in Yellowstone and how they are shot if they leave the park due to bacillus (spelled wrong) scares or the Everglades and water management and trying to restore flows.Acadia National Park in Maine used to have a great history section on their web site. Many national parks are now dealing with traffic issues, crime etc. 67% 2 Votes

try researching the bison issue in both Teton national park and Yellowstone national park. They have issues with the bison having a disease called brucellosis (not sure how it%26#039;s spelled). The local ranching community near the national parks is concerned that when the buffalo calve they can spread the disease to their cattle even though it%26#039;s never been proven. the park is trying to keep them Inside the park so the ranchers won%26#039;t kill them when they wander off the park boundarys. It%26#039;s an interesting issue. Also there has been a lot of talk about the reintroduction of wolves in/near Jackson hole Wyoming and the affect it%26#039;s having on the park and local ranchers. The wolves are thriving on the local elk population and also occasionally on the ranchers cattle causing a local problem there.

You could report on the conditions of Yellowstone NP after the fires of the 90%26#039;s. Turns out to have been one of the most significant natural restorations ever.
Then there is the Everglades NP, The River of Grass has a story all its own. Threatened by Big Sugar pollution, diversion of it sheet flow water resources, infestation of exotic species. Pythons are killing the gators and many non-native trees are encroaching on the open grasslands and mangrove forests. It is on the brink of survival.
good luck. 0% 0 Votes
