Reusing bottle caps, how to keep from rusting?

I want to use them for a mosic type project, not to rebottle. Thanks.

A friend is doing the same thing, but they will become parts of bird feeders.

What she did was to rinse them with rubbing alcohol, dry them and they were good to go. No matter what you do they will show rust spots at some point, but most caps now are now sturdier in construction, the materials used and the paint.

You%26#039;ll be fine for a few decades at the least!

• do not expose them to moisture all the time, and clean them thoroughly before reusing, plus do not soak n water.
• if your using them to make a Mosaic table top one of the convenience stores near me drilled hole in his counter (just big enough to fit a bottle top) then put a piece of glass over it
• It%26#039;s not healthy unless they were boiled first...and then you would be defeating the purpose by using hot water or an energy source.....BEST BET....recycle them with all your other recyclables.
• Try cleaning them with rubbing alcohol and let them dry thoroughly. Put them in a seal-a-meal bag and use seal-a-meal to seal them. I would think that would work.
• The only quick remedy I know of is to keep applying clear nail polish to them. Eventually it would wear down so you would have to keep doing it.
• If you use a little oil, even cooking oil, on your finished product, they will not rust for a long time. Just add the oil to a clean cloth and sort-of buff the whole mosaic. It will add a nice shine to other pieces as well.
