And here you can input your criteria (i.e. side-by-side) and see what Energy Star fridges are available that meet your criteria:

Maytag and Kenmore seem to make some good ones.
Every manufacturer makes some models that are energy efficient, and some not, so you can%26#039;t tell just by the manufacturers name.
Side by sides are inherantly less efficient than top-freezer types.
Most effcient would be SEPARATE %26quot;all-refrigerator%26quot; and chest type freezer.
The %26quot;all-refrigerator%26quot; doesn%26#039;t need a defrost system and the defrost heater (and then cooling stuff back down) uses a lot of extra energy.
Chest freezers dont have the big air-exchange when you open them. So they don%26#039;t have to work as hard to get the temperature back down when you get out your frozen pizza. Kenmore doesn%26#039;t make a Fridge.
All bottom-mount freezer fridges in the US are made by Amana... and relabeled.
Most Kenmore labeled fridges are Whirlpool.. a few are Frigidair or GE.
