Climate Change and London.?? The plan, which builds on Johnson%26#039;s predecessor Ken Livingstone%26#039;s aim to cut London%26#039;s carbon emissions by 60 percent by 2025, is to help the city prevent climate change, prepare for its consequences and recover from its effects

If %26#039;they%26#039; are going to spend billions of taxpayers money on preventing the climate change.
Why would %26#039;they%26#039; need to %26#039;prepare for its consequences%26#039; and %26#039;recover from its effects%26#039;.??

Sounds to me like the billions will be wasted as it going to happen anyway.

The billions of pounds are going to be spent to %26#039;PREVENT%26#039; climate change.
To prevent something is to STOP it from happening.
One the one hand they are saying that by spending all this money they can STOP climate change occurring,
then on the other hand they are saying that no matter how much is spent, it will occur anyway.
Waste of money or what..??

  • Nothing that Britain does on its own is going to make the slightest difference to the effects of global warming. The likely rise in sea levels will mean that London will be largely underwater anyway and there are already plans in place to move the seat of government to Birmingham in this eventuality. My advice to any young person in London, avoid the extra taxes which will have no effect whatsoever and move to Birmingham where the value of your house will skyrocket.
  • You can%26#039;t prevent climate change, it%26#039;s caused by the sun and not us!.
    Check the Ice Core Records, they clearly show Co2 levels only rise after global warming and so are not a cause.
    It%26#039;s natural, it%26#039;s just the way it is, but the rich pigs in government will carry on using it as another excuse to screw us!.
  • The government in London should be in the sheep farming business. They%26#039;ve certainly succeeded in pulling the wool over people%26#039;s eyes. I agree with the answer above, it%26#039;s too bad the city has decided to buy into this nonsense.
  • I%26#039;m sorry the English government has bought into this and is raising your taxes to pay for some things that are unnecessary.
  • %26#039;%26#039;they%26#039; are going to spend billions of taxpayers money on preventing the climate change%26#039;
    are they? i see;
    %26quot;At stake is an estimated 160 billion pounds worth of assets, not just in London and its vital financial district, but all along the banks of the Thames estuary where vast new housing developments are being planned.%26quot; is that what you were misreading?

    %26#039;they are saying that no matter how much is spent, it will occur anyway.%26#039;
    who has said this? the current scientific consensus is that there is at least 1degree of warming already in the pipe, from the co2 we have already emitted, and that does not take into account potential positive feedbacks.
    it is already happening!

    the big difference will be will we get 1 degree, or 4 or 6? will we get 1 metre sea level rise, or 7, or 60?

    come on, you can see it in front of your face. how many times was the thames barrier raised in its first year? how many last year?
