Climate change and vegetation...? On a world wide basis, what would climate change do to the worlds vegetation?

  • naturally, any change in the climate will cause the dominance of vegetation species that can adapt to it. for ex: if the change in climate provides less rainfall, then only drought-tolerant plants will survive hence, changing the plant cover (provided that time is not a limiting factor)
  • Diseases will spread north. A weedlike shrub that I%26#039;ve been trying to get rid of for years suddenly died out a few years ago. Not just in one place, but in surrounding towns where I%26#039;ve seen it. Not a bad event in itself, but what plant will go next; sugar maples, christmas tree farms?
  • Vegetation will expand its range toward the poles. The vegetation that requires cooler weather will shrink in range. Canadian wheat farmers will be happy. Reindeer herders may not.
  • Well, lets take a look at Australia for example, no rain there for a very long time.....the effects on the vegetation speak for itself.
