Are Not their Ideas about Overpopulation/Depopulation a part of this?
Mankind isn%26#039;t separate from nature, it%26#039;s a part of it. It%26#039;s purely for selfish motives (the continuation of our own prosperous and enjoyable lives and those of our descendants) that should motivate us to acknowledge the reality of AGW and deal with it.
Just because there%26#039;s a religious extremist that agrees with me on a scientific issue, doesn%26#039;t mean the scientific issue is religious. That%26#039;s the kind of twisted %26quot;logic%26quot; a certain pretend Dr. around here used last week.
I agree with you that anthropomorphizing mother nature is like a religion, and is unscientific and silly. The fact that some people do this is not an argument against the need to be environmentally conscious. It is merely a distraction from the issues, a very popular strawman tactic (ie... Bob is a gaia believing tree hugger, therefore the whole environmentalist movement is like a religion).
Ooops, I didn%26#039;t mean to make any reference to the Bob that posts here.
Extremism in any form can become dangerous. That of course also applies to extreme environmentalism. But creating fear for different groups based on for example their ideologies, belief or where they live is more dangerous.
No wonder there is so many wars going on in this world!
