Global warming new? Maybe someone has a better clue as to why people think global warming is a new thing?? cause didnt the world used to be a burning ball of fire and then an ice age... so wouldnt you think if the world used to be all ice that somewhere along the lines the ice had to have melted to get us where we are now??? i guess i just dont understand how it is the new big thing..

Semantics. The concern is wheter the weather is being changed by manmade activity.

I don%26#039;t think that any serious person would claim it was new. The thing now is the comparative speed at which it is happening and second the potential harm to our civilisation. The change of about 1 degree in the last century may not sound much but you will realise that because of the mass of the earth this represents a huge build up of energy. The speed at which, for instance the ice sheets have melted and glaciers have retreated has taken many people by surprise and sent us scurrying to work out the impact on things like sea levels.
The second reason why is is being highlightes is the cost of mitigating the impacts. People who used to be able to grow their own foor or raise their livestock successfully can no longer do so and the climate change has made life vert difficult for many of teh most vulnerabl people in the world.
