Global warming question?? ok, now,

please give me the evidence that global warming is MAN MADE.

i only need to know if it is the human activity that heats up the earth or something else.

and i dont need treehugging, algore worshiping caraboos here....

just give me the evidence that ligidimetly proves that global warming is MAN MADE.

2. If the Sun is causing the current warmth, then we%26#039;re getting more energy, and the whole atmosphere should be getting warmer. If increased greenhouse effect is causing the current warmth, then we%26#039;re getting the same amount of energy, but it%26#039;s being distributed differently: more heat is trapped at the surface, and less heat is escaping to the stratosphere. So if it%26#039;s the Sun, the stratosphere should be warming, but if it%26#039;s greenhouse, the stratosphere should be cooling.

In fact, the stratosphere has been on a long-term cooling trend ever since we%26#039;ve been keeping radiosonde balloon records in the 1950%26#039;s. Here%26#039;s the data:

http://cdiac.ornl.gov/trends/temp/sterin...

3. If it%26#039;s the Sun, we%26#039;re getting more energy during the day, and daytime temperatures should be rising fastest. But if it%26#039;s greenhouse, we%26#039;re losing less heat at night, and nighttime temperatures should be rising fastest. So if it%26#039;s the sun, the difference between day and night temperatures should be increasing, but if it%26#039;s greenhouse, the day-night difference should be decreasing.

In fact, the daily temperature range has been decreasing throughout the 20th century. Here%26#039;s the science:

4. Total solar irradiance has been measured by satellite since 1978, and during that time it has shown the normal 11-year cycle, but no long-term trend. Here%26#039;s the data:
http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/stp/SOLAR/solar...

5. Scientists have looked closely at the solar hypothesis and have strongly refuted it. Here%26#039;s the peer-reviewed science:

http://www.mpa-garching.mpg.de/mpa/publi...

So we can reject the %26quot;natural causes%26quot; hypothesis. But the human-caused hypothesis has very strong evidence behind it:

1. We know that CO2 is a greenhouse gas that warms the earth; although not as abundant as water vapor, it stays in the air for decades to centuries. Water vapor doesn%26#039;t do that, it evaporates and precipitates in days or weeks. That means water vapor can%26#039;t force climate change, while CO2 can. Also, CO2 is much more effective as a greenhouse gas than water is on a molecule-for-molecule basis. So CO2 causes about 26% of the earth%26#039;s entire greenhouse warming.

2. CO2 levels in the air were stable for 10,000 years prior to the industrial revolution, at about 280 parts per million by volume (ppmv). Since 1800, CO2 levels have risen 38%, to 385 ppmv, with no end in sight. Here%26#039;s the modern data...

... and the ice core data ...

... and a graph showing how it fits together:

3. We know that the excess CO2 in the air is caused by burning of fossil fuels, for two reasons. First, because the sharp rise in atmospheric CO2 started exactly when humans began burning coal in large quantities (see the graph linked above); and second, because when we do isotopic analysis of the CO2 we find increasing amounts of %26quot;old%26quot; carbon combined with %26quot;young%26quot; oxygen. If you want a comprehensive look at the evidence (not just a few bits that fit in a Yahoo Answer) take a look at %26quot;The Physical Science Basis%26quot; available from Amazon.com or free online at http://www.ipcc.ch/ 0% 0 Votes

basically, CO2 allows high frequency light to pass through it, but absorbs, and then re-radiates lower frequency infrared radiation.
it%26#039;s sort of like putting an extra cover on your bed at night.

and it%26#039;s here now, already.

Unfortunately, most of it is written so you need to be able to read...

Acot - you have no source to back up this claim so I%26#039;ll give you one: http://www.clipmarks.com/clipmark/2D7281... (Except this one says that humans emit 150X as much CO2 as volcanoes so you might not like my link)

I have to admit to being a skeptic myself though... skeptical of anything Mikey might say after his first sentence included %26quot;there are not any studies to support the treatise that global warming is caused by human activity%26quot; I, and many others on this page have given links to numerous studies that actually do support that (whether they are correct or not is not even the issue here, he denies their very existence!).
Someone who denies self-evident truths is not, to me, the sort I will ask to help me determine the future of this planet...

Same thing goes for for davem: %26quot;no other evidence%26quot;; bet he can convince himself that there%26#039;s no light during the day as well...

As for the evidence you seek: Read the IPCC report http://www.ipcc.ch/ - I don%26#039;t see the point in copying and pasting 18 pages here when you can download it yourself.

There%26#039;s a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/a...

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_...
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu...

EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us. The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.
