Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

global warming is drastically affecting life in mumbai.
firstly the change in temperature is quiet phenomenal ,the
temperature reached to the lowest degree in 50 years and the summer temperatures have been worse.
secondly the rainfall.as everyone knows what mumbai faced on 26/7/05 and in the past two years mumbai has been traumatised by thes floods.
therefore we should all come together to stop pollution and save electricity.we shouldmake people aware of the effects of global warming onthe present and the future generation. 40% 2 Votes

  • Global warming is bound to hit Indian economy and environment badly, if the climate change predictions of the UN panel, released on Friday, come true. India could lose as much as 9% of its GDP, largely from events like submergence of low-lying coastal areas.

A report by the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai, has put the quantum of loss at a staggering 9%, but several studies predict direct consequences like flooding as well as fall in agricultural productivity.

Rice yields could fall by as much as 40% as sowing seasons, and consequently, growth period of the crops, change.

The direct impact of this change in climate is seen to be far worse. About 7.1 million people in India would be affected by submergence of coastal lands if temperatures rise by 2 degree celsius.

The economic loss, quite naturally, would be high in urban zones such as Mumbai and Chennai. Studies conclude that Mumbai alone could suffer loses up to $48 billion due to projected submergence.

To accentuate the problem, urban sprawls, reeling under the impact of climate change, will also have to cater to migration of poor marginal farmers from submerged rural areas, further straining the damaged infrastructure in the coastal cities.

Wheat yields too, would get wiped out substantially, raising costs of grains and hitting overall GDP growth. Farmers would be hit as farm level incomes could be affected by as much as 25% if temperatures change by a mere 2-3%. The latest UN report pegs the temperature change by the end of the century at 4.5%. Alf from Melmac and Master Splinter 20% 1 Vote
