I am basing this question on a recent controversial documentary where hundreds of scientists are arguing it. I do not believe nor disbelieve hense the question not the statement. all i have given is factshttp://gristmill.grist.org/story/2007/7/...

Seriously, where do you people hear this misinformation? Rush Limbaugh? Pat Robertson?? 0% 0 Votes 0% 0 Votes Paint your own home or plant trees but we have to stop allowing solar radiation from scorching the surface of the planet. We have to STOP removing the ground cover(trees and everything living) it was designed to keep the temperatures down. Go and see what shade does. First of all, global warming is (obviously) not a scam. Anyone who thinks it does is ignorant, either because they are simply uneducated or because they are ignorant.
Secondly, global warming does not have any ONE cause - you seem to think that the rising level of carbon dioxide emissions is THE cause of global warming. While it is definitely a major factor in the rising temperatures of our planet, it is only one of many! And they are all anthropogenic, meaning global warming is a problem we have caused on our own planet by our collective human activities, such as:
1. Deforestation - this one is a biggie because it is linked to so many other things (habitat degradation, less CO2 converted to O2 = less O2 for our planet, loss of biodiversity/more extinctions, pollution of bodies of water due to erosion, etc...) - but conservative figures estimate that up to 1/5th of GW trends can be blamed on deforestation....(either due to clearing of land for housing, industrial, and agricultural space, grazing for cattle=methane, etc...)
2. Release of other greenhouse gases like methane - make all the jokes you want about cow farts but this is mostly due to our overconsumption of red meat (so if you are vegetarian you are actually promoting not only your own health but also the health of the planet!), and molecule for molecule, this gas is actually more harmful as a greenhouse gas than CO2 - also CFCs, N2O (nitrous oxide), tropospheric ozone.
3. Overconsumption of natural resources - the obvious one here is gas - humans (especially Westerners) have a knack for wasting gasoline. In 1996 according to an annual study by traffic engineers from Texas A and M University, it was found that drivers in Los Angeles and New York City alone wasted 600 million gallons of gas annually while just sitting in traffic. The 600 million gallons of gas translates to about 7.5 million tons of carbon dioxide in just those two cities. The average American uses about 4 gallons of gas a day. And most people do not realize it but about 75% of that is goes towards the plastic in most of what we use (which is in turn wasted if not recycled!)
It is an incredibly sad thing, what our species has down to this planet and its other inhabitants over the past centuries.
Most of this damage is irreversable.
But if we can change our patterns of overconsumption, thoughtlessness, and apathy for the planet by educating ignorant people who are perhaps unconsciously harming it...then would be taking steps in the right direction.
I can only hope that more and more people will begin to see for themselves the extent of our damage and the harm that has been done - extinctions, loss of nature, and increasing problems of humanity are only some of the visible causes....because otherwise, you would have to be completely, utterly (and dangerously!) ignorant. 9% 1 Vote
